Steam Pressing in Trivandrum, Without the Shine

A domestic iron flattens fabric with heat and weight. That is what puts shine on a blazer shoulder and kills the loft in wool. Steam pressing relaxes the fibre and lets it recover its own shape instead.

Why the method matters

Shine on dark wool is not dirt. It is crushed fibre reflecting light, and it is permanent. So is the glazed patch a too hot iron leaves on synthetics, and the flattened pile on velvet and corduroy.

Steam avoids all of it. Moisture and heat release the creases, the fibre stands back up, and the garment is shaped rather than squashed. It is slower and it costs more. It is also the only method that keeps good cloth looking good over years rather than months.

No pressing shine. Dark wool, blazers and trousers keep their depth of colour.
Loft preserved. Wool, velvet and corduroy hold their pile instead of being crushed flat.
Safe on synthetics. No glazing or scorching on polyester, chiffon and blends.
Sanitising. Steam at temperature refreshes the garment and removes odour as it presses.

Hand pressing for ceremonial pieces

Bridal sarees, Kancheepuram silks, lehengas and heavily worked garments are pressed by hand, panel by panel, around the embellishment rather than across it. Zari and beadwork will not survive a press bed. This is patient work and it is charged accordingly.

Questions we are asked

How much does steam pressing cost?

From 40 rupees for a regular shirt and 50 rupees for a trouser. Regular sarees are 90 rupees, silk sarees 130 rupees and bridal or Kancheepuram sarees 250 rupees. The full per piece list is on the rate card.

Can you press without washing?

Yes. Press only orders are common, particularly for garments worn once or stored folded. We collect, press and return them.

Will pressing damage silk or embellished work?

Not the way we do it. Silk, zari and beadwork are pressed by hand around the embellishment. We do not run worked garments through a press bed.

Do you press curtains and household linen?

Yes. Bed sheets are 60 rupees for a single and 100 rupees for double, queen or king. Table linen and cushion covers are on the rate card.

Can I have my whole laundry load returned pressed?

Yes. Premium laundry with steam pressing across every piece is 369 rupees per kilo.
